Senior School Update

Y5/6 Teachers —

A busy fortnight in the Senior School with our trips to Tiritiri Matangi Island and our Rehu Tai Festival of Oral Language final. Check out the photos in our update.

Tiritiri Matangi Trip

We had two fantastic trips to Tiritiri Matangi Island last week! The kids came back to school absolutely buzzing about the trip - it appears the ferry ride to the island was just as exciting as being on the island! Thank you to everyone that supported this trip and for assisting your children to be at school at the right time with the right gear. Check out some photos below of the trips!

Rehu Tai Festival of Oral Language

All Senior students have been working hard to create and present their Oral Language presentations over the last couple of weeks. This culminated in students presenting to their peers in their Studio with a wealth of topics and knowledge on display.

On Monday, we held our Senior School Rehu Tai Festival of Oral Language. Thank you to our special guest judge, Miriama Kamo, who helped us out with the prepared speech category. Also, thank you to Olivia who was our MC for the event. Congratulations to the following students who won their category and will represent our school at our cluster final in Week 2, Term 4, at Point Chevalier School:

  • Prepared Speech: James M - Older Sisters
  • Spoken Word: Sarah M - Our Beautiful World
  • Flash Talk: Eli M - Diplegia Makes Me
  • Rap: Finn N - Best Friends

We look forward to hearing from these four again tomorrow morning at our Whole School Assembly!

Concept

This term, we have had a conceptual focus on the living world. We have explored this through the Science curriculum. This has included learning about how all living things share common life processes and how cells form the basis of life. Following our trips to Tiritiri Matangi, we have been looking at biodiversity. This has included learning about the fragility of some ecosystems and what is needed to sustain these.

Studio 6 Wheels Afternoon

A reminder that Studio 6 are holding their Wheels Afternoon on Monday next week, starting at 3:15pm, under the Supertop. Please bring a plate of food to share. As we have children with allergies, can we kindly request that food is nut-free please. Children can bring their scooters, skateboards and roller skates (no bikes please).

Coming Up in Term 4

  • Cycle Safety: If you missed the previous article in last week's newsletter, please have a read about the Year 5-6 cycle safety programme which is taking place during Week 1, Term 4.
  • Concept: Next term, our learning will be centred around the Technology curriculum, learning how to apply a technological process to meet a need or opportunity. Following this, we'll move to the Arts curriculum, investigating how artists use different artistic techniques to communicate their message.
