Junior School Update

Kylie McBeth —

Science, Science, Science! Over the last few weeks, we have been growing plants from seeds and looking at how seeds grow into different plants. We have also been exploring how plants have adapted to grow in different places. The children have had wonderful discussions about these during our concept time.

Our garden

We have now planted many of the seedlings we grew from seeds into our garden. We are also growing potatoes and mushrooms! We are looking forward to harvesting our vegetables and making some delicious kai.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

We enjoyed many activities along with practising our te reo during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori language week). We used the rākau sticks along to E Papa Waiari. We had Lily and Beau from NUONI come and teach us some Māori string games. They were tricky but the kids kept persevering and practising until they got it!

Eye Tests

Look out for the Harrison and Matthews voucher for a free eye test (no obligations) to have your child's eyes checked.  Check your child's book bag on Friday.

Thanks

A huge thanks to all our parents who have volunteered to help us this term. The children and teachers really appreciate all that you do. Help with PMP,  trips, reading with children, putting the readers away, glueing photos and activities into books and being a waka driver all help to support our children and their learning. If you are interested or have a few minutes to spare in the morning please let your Studio teachers know.

Thanks to Kate, Vic and Chantelle for organising our LS1 and 2 breakfast this Friday, 20th September, 8-8:50. Bring a plate to share. Sign up doc

LS3 news

Gymnastics

LS3 is finishing the term with a 3-week gymnastics unit in PE. We have been using the equipment to balance, swing and roll. As well as the physical benefits, it has been a great way to increase confidence and cooperation skills! We have enjoyed stretching and controlling our bodies whilst following a Cosmic Pokémon adventure. Some of the benefits of yoga include increased flexibility, strength, coordination as well as being fun and relaxing.

Art The children are in the second part of our current art rotation. We have been doing printmaking, painting with watercolour pastels and sculpting hei tiki from modelling clay. Keep an eye on the classroom walls to see our wonderful end results! Some of our fish prints are being displayed in the Library. They look gorgeous!

Discovery Some recent fun on a Friday:
- Making plate gardens with pebbles, flowers, plants etc.
 - We cooked some delicious kale chips which everyone loved!
- Paper plane exploration

Kapa Haka with Whaea Vicki
We are refining Toia Mai and Te Rehu. We have tried using her wonderful poi. The emphasis is on working together to keep time, learning the songs that we sing as a community during pōwhiri and having fun!

Garden Writing LS3

Our Garden

The waves are washing and the wind is blowing.

The beautiful sand is smooth as silk.

The bushes are leafy and comfy.

The flowers are pretty in the blowing wind.

The bridge is made of wooden sticks and the pond quietly rocks.

Ethan, Noah and Edward.

Our Garden

The wind is washing across my garden.

All the leaves have fallen down.

The flowers are sprinkles across the bark.

The waves are splashing with delight.

The sand feels smooth in my hand.

By Aubree, Dahlia and Cleo.

My Fairy Garden

Our garden is lovely.

We love to play hide and seek.

Inside the leaves look like snow.

The inside of the petals look like snow.

The white flower is a resting spot.

LS1 and 2 news

Welcome to our new members of the studio. It is so lovely to have you with us!

Maths

We have been using shapes to investigate symmetry and tesselation. The children have made some fantastic patterns! Some could become tile designers! We have been using 2D shapes but have also found some great apps and websites to support the children's learning.

Writing

After our trip to the zoo, the children have been researching facts about plants and animals and written facts they have found. Some of our older children have made their very own non-fiction books. Come into the studio and take a look at the displays and beautiful artwork that accompany the children's writing. Get your child to share their stories with you.

Gardening

We have been looking after our gardens in our LS1 and 2 courtyards, weeding, planting and picking up the rubbish. Please support us by sending your child with a wrapper free lunch box.
