LS 4:
Learning Celebration Tuesday 26th September
Parents/Caregivers you are invited to join us to celebrate our learning for this term. We will be performing whole studio waiata connected to our learning at 6.00 pm and 6.30 pm (we will gather all students together at these times as a Studio to perform).
After students have performed they will then be able to independently or with their groups share their learning. You may be treated to puppet shows, drama, fashion shows, slide shows, or an interactive model. Some students might need to liaise with their groups as to whether they come at 6pm or 6.30pm.
We invite you to 'read the walls' of the studio to further understand the learning and the processes we have gone through.
The children are super excited and we look forward to seeing you all!
LS 4 Survivor Event
When: Thursday, 28th September 2017 (No rain date. If it is raining it will be cancelled.)
Time: 4-5.30pm. Racing will start at 4.15pm.
Meet: On the top court at 4pm.
Entry: Please hand your entry to Sarah (teacher) in LS4. We have asked for a $2 donation to cover costs for equipment. Please enter no later than Friday 22nd September (If we don't get 20 teams, it will not go ahead).
What to bring: Please wear old clothes. You might want to wear a team colour or team costume. The crazier the better. Snack to enjoy with your family while you watch the other racers.
Teams will be made up of 1 adult/older sibling and 1 child. Teams will navigate a number of obstacles including the playground, courts, hoses (yes, you will get wet) and Pohutukawa Park with a number of mind teasers thrown in to keep you on your toes. Clue: one game will be a memory game. You don't need to be an athlete to enjoy it. It is most certainly not a fitness test. It is purely fun for the kids. If your child does not have an adult or an older sibling to team up with, please let us know and we can arrange a teammate for them.
We will need a handful of volunteers to help on the course. It will be very easy. If you would like to help please let us know.
Fastest team wins - with a twist!

Howick Historical Village
What a fabulous day we had at Howick Historical Village. We loved seeing our students dressed in costume and it certainly added to the tone of the day. Thank you to all our parent helpers for your time and enthusiasm. Please send us any photos from the day for us to add to our studio display.
Dance
We have just come to the end of our weekly dance lessons with Millie from Sport Auckland. The children worked together to create dance routines which they performed in front of each other at the end of the last session. We have some groovy little dancers in Studio 5!
Celebration of Learning
The children are very excited about our upcoming Celebration of Learning on Tuesday 26th September between 6-7.30pm.
Studio 5 is going to turn into a Live Museum where our audience can come and interact with our exhibits.
Your child has chosen to either come dressed up as a toy to perform in character or to make a toy which they will use to perform a short sequence. Some children are working in groups and others are performing individually. Children who have made toys are welcome to come dressed in character too, if they would like to. This is optional.
Dressing up
If your child is dressing up please keep their costume at home. They can come dressed up on the night ready to perform for you. If you are able, please take a photo of them over the next few days to email to us so that we can put together a keepsake for them. You can email your photo to hthompson@westmere.school.nz or jkeely@westmere.school.nz
Toy Making
Some children have opted to make their toy at school and others have made their toy at home. Please make sure their toy is returned to school as soon as possible so that they can rehearse over the next few days using their creation.
Performance Night
You are invited to visit the Studio at any stage between 6pm and 7.30pm with your child on Tuesday evening. You will be able to interact with your child’s exhibit and the exhibits of others depending on who is visiting the Live Museum at the time. If your child is working with a group and you need support coordinating a group time to perform and visit our Live Museum please contact either Hannah or Jane as we are happy to assist with this.
Please talk to your child about their plan for the evening. We are all very excited.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday night!

Howick Historical Village
We had a wonderful day and we are very grateful to the parents who came along with us. The trip was very successful with the teachers from there noting that our children were physically very capable and that they persevered brilliantly whilst playing on the old fashioned outdoor toys. Well done! The children were very interested in investigating the herb garden. Maybe you could plant some herbs during the holidays? Check out their website for details about their “Live Sundays” and the school holiday programme that they are running.
Celebration of Learning
The children are very excited about our upcoming Celebration of Learning Tuesday 26th September between 6-7.30pm.
The children have been working in groups to stage and perform poems for you. They will perform their poems independently, so feel free to come at any time on that night. You will be able to see the learning process that we went through during Concept this term as we considered how “The Arts provide opportunities to communicate over time.” They have also undertaken an inquiry based on a personal area of interest which they can show you too.
Flippa ball
Well done to the players from our studio and the rest of the middle school who won the top Year 3 & 4 grade competition in Flippa Ball on Sunday! The team is looking for new players for next term so do talk to Robyn if you are keen and she will pass your details on to the coach.
