Kia ora koutou Westmere School community,

As we enter a new school year it is great to have new whānau on board and a great start with lots of fabulous events happening around the kura. As a board we have started the year off hoping to get some of our new property projects started but have been hindered by a very busy job load for our local builders.

Last year we nominated our longest serving elected member for a Recognition of Service for Long Standing Board Members award. The New Zealand School Trustees Association (NSTA) celebrates and acknowledges the successes and achievements of long-serving board members in Aotearoa. It is about recognising those who have really made a difference and gone beyond the call of duty for their school and community. The nominee having served continuously as a member of the Westmere School board for a period of service of six continuous years is Andrew Cameron. Thank you Andrew for your service to our kura and your contributions to our board. Finally, we understand and sympathise with the disruption that the teachers strike will have on our school community. This Thursday our kura will close for instruction as our teachers and principal strike for a range of initiatives. I’m sure you would agree with us that our tamariki are the centre of all that we do and we want the best possible outcomes for them all.Ngā mihi,

Hollie Laird
