Kia ora koutou Westmere School community,We as a board would like to extend a mihi/ thank you to those of you who took the time to meet with us in the hall during three-way learning conferences last term. It was a great opportunity to meet with you face-to-face and hear some of your thoughts and ideas around what is happening or what could be happening at our kura. We asked a question to parents and caregivers around what areas need to be improved on at our school and we received a wide range of feedback. The most prevalent suggestions we have discussed as a team at our last board hui. The most popular suggestion for improvement was around shade in the pool area. Thank you for this suggestion- it is one that we are looking to improve on and implement, so watch this space. The second most popular suggestion was around an improvement on communications from the school in relation to events etc. Phil has acknowledged this is always an area that can be continually improved. Finally, the issue of parking around the school. Unfortunately, this is an issue we have limited options with. Our best suggestion in the meantime is to have a think about staggering your pick up times after school. The first bell rings at 2.55pm to release first bus tamariki. Delaying your pickup up time by even five or ten minutes gives your child/ren extra time to have a play on the playground and find/pack all their belongings. We know it's not ideal, but logistically it is an issue that would require significant funding and potentially a loss of space otherwise used for our tamariki to play on. If you have any further ideas on this however, please feel free to share. The results from the rest of the survey are attached.
We can safely rule out a majority wanting a school uniform in this round of consultation. The results for whether you want a school uniform were:
In 2020 Yes 26% No 74%
In 2023 Yes 41% No 59% (171 votes)
Enjoy the rest of this busy term with your tamariki and thank you for your feedback.
Ngā mihi,
