Whangaparaoa Jump Jam 2020

Wgp School —

Well done to our 8 Jump Jam teams that competed at Torbay school last weekend. Our Y2 team got an amazing 3rd place and we also received an award for the most teams entered. Our school received a free Jump jam licence for some new songs, worth $700. All our students and teachers worked so hard and we are proud of all of you.

                    Jump Jam!

Practice:

For practises we started in March and ended in October when it was close to the competition. At school we practiced everyday. We practised for so long because of the Covid lockdowns and the competition date kept moving later and later. When it wasn’t close to the competition we practised on Tuesdays and Thursdays and sometimes even Mondays. We had eight Jump Jam teams competing this year!

Improving:

Once we had finished learning our dance, we still had to practice. We learnt a chant., We had to be really loud at the competition but we'll tell you more about that later. At school our chant wasn’t as loud because it was at school of course, but at the competition we had to be loud.

Competition:

The day of the competition we went to Torbay School and competed. We were the first people on stage and we were nervous to go up and to do it. There was also another group the same routine as ours - Four Minutes (By Madonna and Justin Timberlake)! It was our turn and we did really well. We said our chant really loud and it was going so well and all our competitors were really good! We were nervous for the placings. We didn’t get placed, but I knew we did great!
