WALKING SCHOOL BUS

Debbie Thompson —

Our school is a TravelWise School and we try to encourage students and whanau to make wise travel choices where possible:

  • When coming in cars park safely, children should get out on the footpath side, and use the pedestrian crossing if there is one nearby. Park and walk - park away from the school and then walk so there is not too much traffic congestion near the gates.

  • Sustainable travel - walking, scooting, biking

  • Safe travel - stop to look before crossing the road, wear helmets when biking or scooting, dismount and walk bikes and scooters when crossing the road and in school grounds, use the pedestrian crossing if there is one nearby

  • Since 2005 we have had walking school buses - a group of children who walk to school together along a set route, with a parent supervisor. This is a great way for our tamariki to get used to walking to school, to make friends, and it frees up a bit of time for parents on the days they are not supervising a ‘bus’.

Would you like to join one of our walking school buses? Fill in the form on the walking school bus timetable, or contact Mrs Thompson if you would like to propose a new route dthompson@wgp.school.nz

Here are some photos from our Arkles Bay Walking School Bus this week. Manly Village Bus starts next week on Mondays and Tuesdays.
