Sideline behaviour - Supporting our volunteers/ coaches/ managers.

Kevin Cronin —

When our children play sport, we require them to carry through our school values and be great role models.

We also recommend that parents follow a code of required behaviours so they too can be great role models to their children. Find below a Code of Conduct provided by Harbour Netball which specifies the types of behaviours required so that all involved can enjoy the game. Please set these high standards for your children.

Supporters

  • Applaud the performance of both teams
  • Be positive with the officials
  • Acknowledge the efforts of the officials and volunteers
  • Let the players play their game, not your game. Only the coach may direct play
  • Praise efforts, not results. Remember young people play sport for their satisfaction, not yours
  • Use appropriate and acceptable language
  • Display self control on the sideline
  • Respect umpires decisions whether you agree or not (no spectator influence will be accepted)
  • NO comments or words should be uttered about the standard of umpiring (the umpires can hear these and it only increases their nervousness and makes matters worse )
  • NO ONE is to approach an umpire, the only person that can is the coach//captain in a break and only for rule clarification. Please ask a Kidzplay Netball Umpire Mentor for assistance if there are any issues during the games
  • No supporters on court during game time
  • Supporters are not allowed at either goal/base lines, but are welcome along the court sideline but must give way to the umpire
  • We expect supporters on the sideline to leave the coaching of the teams to the coaches, umpiring to the umpires and ask that they give only positive support, feedback, praise and encouragement to all coaches, umpires and players
  • Zero tolerance of abusive language towards the umpire, coach or players
  • Be a positive role model
  • Set an example for the players
  • Parents are responsible for younger siblings at all times
  • Parents to encourage their child to respect and listen to their coach before, during and immediately after the game

Relax and enjoy the game, please don't forget to thank our coaches and managers. They are volunteers, and without them the opportunity would not happen.
