Hockey Tournament

WGP School —

Have you ever been in the top 4 teams in an inter-school hockey tournament? Our team came fourth at the Millwater tournament last week.

We rocked up to the hockey club at 9:00. The B team had 7 games, the A team had 3 games and the A girls had 5. We lost our first A team game, and the other two teams lost their first games too. In the next 2 games the A boys won and I felt really happy.

We only had 3 weeks to train which is not long for hockey. We had training on Tuesday and Friday’s. Sometimes there were 10 people away so we had to drop some out. We were working on passing and controlling the ball which some people struggle with. We all felt under pressure to step up on the day.

At first I felt really nervous but when you start playing you start to get it and things start going well. I like being on the field but when I was subbed off I wanted to get straight back on. By Liam Aalders

“Wow, these are such good turfs!” I thought with excitement when we arrived at the Millwater hockey grounds with amazement in our eyes. I was very nervous at first but when we started training we were all pumped up.

The Boys B team had a game as soon as we got to the grounds, but they were just warming up and sadly lost that one. The next game was the Girls A team who also lost that game. So it was up to us, Boys A team, to win their first game but unfortunately we lost too 5-7.

The next game Boys A won 5-3. We made it into the Pool finals and played for 5th. We won 2-0, surprising because our school have never played proper hockey together! The Boys B team won 3, lost 3 and tied 1. The all girls team didn’t quite win any of their games, but the main thing was that we all had fun!   By Skip Frogley
