Team M&M Business 2019

Team M/M —

It all started when Mrs Osborne came to our class and gave us two 5 dollar notes we grew that into more money and created a class business, this is how we did it.

When we created the market day we had 6 groups selling different products or services, ranging from ice cream to games. Our expectations were low, so when we found out that we had made $830 we were amazed. With the $830 profit we donated $100 to starship hospital, $200 to the PFA, $100 to the SPCA, $150 to the Christchurch tragedy and the rest we used to fund our next idea.
We wanted to do another market day so we proposed to Kevin all our ideas, a lot of our ideas were food items to sell. He was not sure on the food ideas ideas he said, “find some ideas that are not food”, so we decided, why don’t we do a Sustainable Shop and sell sustainable products?
After Kevin said yes to the Sustainable Shop idea we got into groups and we gathered ideas on what Sustainable products we could make. After we had our ideas we got to work and started making our products. We were very successful with the Sustainable Shop we made $1,636 and decided to have a celebration at the end of the term.
With some of our profit we decided to buy a 3D printer wich cost $470. We used our 3D printer to print things for our Sustainable Shop number two. With the money we made from our 3D printer products, we were able to buy filament so that everyone can use it in the STEM room next year.
We then asked Kevin if we could open up another shop and he said YES. So after, we thought of more ideas in groups about what products we could make and we started to gather our items to make our products. We could also buy some items that we needed as we had a budget to use now.
After the first Sustainable Shop we had an idea on what to do next, but we weren’t sure if it would be as popular. The products we sold were a little bit different such as healthy smoothies, jewellery, lucky dip, pen holders, scooter stands etc. But we were wrong we made just over the amount we did on our first class shop.
We made a profit of $1651 dollars which raised the question of ‘what are we going to do with the profits?’ For the school we bought 14 scooters, 2 sport balls for every class, 6 skateboards (with safety gear), four sets of reading novels for Y5/6 students, a Macbook to go with the 3D printer and filament for the 3D printer (which will be donated to the STEM room). We also got a little treat which was a movie for the class in the hall.
We learned how to run a business and how to set up a company. We learned how to make products then how to sell them. We also learned how to set up our business and work as a team. We enjoyed making and selling the products. It was really great seeing it turn into something so big, we feel really proud!
