Around the School

WGP School —

What a buzz around the school this week! Team M&M have been running their sustainable shop, Black Sticks Hockey star Olivia Merry coached a group of our students, and B7 have been bird hunting!

Yesterday B7 took part in the NZ Garden Birds Survey. We were like scientists and counted the birds in our school grounds. Other people around the whole of NZ were also doing it this week to see how our birdlife is surviving.

On the school grounds we saw:

  • a huge flock of 62 starlings
  • 9 mynas
  • 16 sparrows
  • 5 blackbirds
  • 2 magpies
  • 2 rosellas
  • 2 pigeons
  • 1 tui

We saw one thing that made us sad. A seagull had a piece of plastic stuck around its leg. It looked like part of a plastic bag. Sometimes it tried to bite it off but it couldn’t do it.

You can do this at home.
