Cross Country Nerves

Lilly, Evie, Ruby, Bella, Madi and Marisol —

We all felt extremely nervous as we jumped up and down for the warm up. It was the day of the tiring cross country.

We all felt extremely nervous as we jumped up and down for the warm up. It was the day of the tiring cross country.

Warm up finished and we made a line to start, 3, 2, 1 “bang” the clapper signalled the start of the race. A very fast older student led us along the course. We started at an extremely fast pace but after a few corners we slowed down a bit.

Although we were puffed we didn’t give up. As we went down the hill we got an awesome boost that helped us pick up the pace.

Running up the hill was the next challenge. Our hearts were thumping, bumping and beating hard against our chests.

We saw the finish line and we started sprinting at top speed. People were cheering us on - Go! Yipee!! Hooray! You can do it! You’re nearly there, keep going!

We knew we were the winners so we felt proud and relieved that it was over. We ran into the chute and were given a number on our hands - first, second or third for all six of us in B7.

A juicy ice block cooled us down and gave us more energy. We are determined to win again next year.
