TRAVELWISE NEWS

  1. TRAVELWISE MAP. This week every class has been in to learn about road safety and wise travel options. Children located their houses on a large map and looked at how everyone comes to school. We looked at where the walkways are and how to get to school. We are impressed with how many walk, bike, and scooter to school, even some from quite a distance! Some families who live further out even park and walk/bike/scoot - they come in the car part of the way and then walk/bike/scoot the rest of the way. Thanks for encouraging your kids to get a healthy start to the day and for cutting down on vehicles around our school!

  2. BIKE MONTH PROMOTION NEXT WEEK. If you bike to school next week please collect a TravelWise card from the TravelWise Team who will be outside the office each morning. Get two or more clicks for biking next week and go in the draw to win a prize (movie tickets!)

  3. What is a WALKING SCHOOL BUS ?

A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school together with an adult ‘driver’. The benefits of a walking school bus include it’s a safe and healthy way to get to school; children learn and practice road safety, you can get to know others in the community, exercise for parent helpers - a great way to start your morning walk - drop the kids at school and carry on, and cutting down on pollution with less car trips.

It’s great for the kids, great for the community, great for the environment!

We have some wonderful parents who have offered to supervise some days on Walking School Buses - we’d love some more helpers!

Walking School Bus MEETING for anyone interested.  There will be a meeting with Auckland Transport people at 9am on Monday 24th Feb in the staffroom for anyone interested in finding out more about walking school buses. Or email Mrs Thompson if you would like to know more dthompson@wgp.school.nz
