Football Tournament

M Shearer —

On Tuesday the Year 5 / 6 Boys Football teams went to compete at Stanmore Bay Park in the inter-school football competition.

It was the biggest tournament with the most teams entering since the tournament started, so the competition was definitely going to be tough! The 'B' team ended up finishing third in their group, missing out on a finals spot on goal difference because even though they were attacking most of the game they were unable to score the vital goal to put them through. They all played really well and were more than competitive against the other teams. The 'A' team made an excellent start, winning all but one of their group games, and drawing the other. A great result considering they played four games in a row! So finishing top of their group brought a tough semi-final against Red Beach which they won 1-0. Unfortunately, in the final the boys met a very determined and skillful Silverdale team and couldn't quite pull off a comeback win after a poor start. So second place it was, but with the level of competition, that in itself was an excellent achievement. All the boys played really well in their teams and represented our school superbly, displaying excellent sportsmanship and supporting each other. Well done boys! Thank you to all the parents who drove us there and stayed to support both teams. It can't happen without you and the children loved having you there!
It was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely."
