Te Tepu a Whāea Hayley. Nau mai, hōki mai ki Te Kura Takawaenga o Whangārei: Term 3, Wiki 2

Hayley Read —

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitahi. Success is not the work of an individual but the work of many. Let's work together for the success of our tamariki: hard work, teamwork, resilience, perseverance, and respect*

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you had an awesome and refreshing time during the holidays with your tamariki. It has been a great start to the term even though the weather has been a rather tad challenging with it being so unsettled.

We are also pleased to welcome Whaea Alyssa Sills, who will be the new teacher in Kohu, Ruma 8. We also welcome back Whaea Eden, Tumuaki Tuarua.  Mr. Botica is on leave this term, so Whaea Eden will be supporting Te Whānau o Kauika and Te Whānau o Wairohia. Whaea Kim will assist Whaea Alyssa this week, and Mr. Anderson will be teaching in Wairipo, Ruma 3 for the next two weeks. Whaea Sarah King will then return to teach her original class.  Mr Anderson has a new position at Hora Hora School and will begin his new job week 3.  Congratulations Mr Anderson.

We have another busy term ahead of us again:  High School visits and Open days, WIS Contributing School visits,  AIMs games, Debating, Cross Country, Maths Problem Solving and Maths Wiki, and Open Days for prospective Whānau to mention a few of the events.  AIMs Games will be held in Tauranga towards the end of this term from Sunday 8th to Friday 13th September. We plan to take teams to represent WIS in hockey, sevens girls and boys, netball, squash, tennis, soccer and gymnastics. Once again, Mr. Rankin is the organiser extraordinaire!  Many thanks Mr. Rankin. He mihi nui ki a koe.

Enrolments 2025

ATTENDANCE - School is open from 8:15 am. That is the time the staff are officially on site. Prior to that time, there was no adult supervision at school. Please do not drop your child off any earlier. Class begins at 8:45 am and ends at 3:00 pm daily. Please make sure your child(ren) attends school during these times. If your child(ren) is going to be absent on any school day you must notify the office of this absence so we are aware of the reason otherwise we will be concerned with truancy (we are obliged to keep very accurate records for the MOE). Please ring the absence line before 9 am on the day if not sooner 438 8659 ext 1 and leave a message with your child’s name, room number and reason for their absence. Easy peasy!

COMPLAINTS POLICY - Attached is our complaints policy for your perusal. As a rule of thumb, any teaching and learning concerns must be addressed to the classroom teacher before any person in management is asked to be involved. It is our responsibility to support all members of our community so we are very committed to kanohi ki te kanohi kaupapa: face to face principle.

WISE Matrix - Finally attached is our WISE Matrix for your information. It outlines our expectations for our students based on our school values: Manaaki i ahau. Manaaki tangata. Manaaki taiao. Respect for one's self, others and the environment.

Read on to find out about the great learning opportunities happening at kura for your tamariki, with all thanks to the fabulous kaimahi.

Mā te wā, na Hayley Read. Tumuaki/Principal of the best school in Whangārei with the most remarkable students (especially those who are demonstrating our school’s vision: mā te whanaungatanga, ka whai mātauranga te akonga, ka tū rangatira).
