Kia ora whānau the start of a new term is always a good time to remind your children of these important bus safety points.

Safety Guidelines Using Buses

  • Cross the roads at safe places when walking to and from bus stops, parents should check out suitable routes

  • Stand well clear from the curb when the bus approaches and departs the bus stop

  • Always wait for the bus to be well down the road before crossing a road at a bus stop as approaching cars will not see children.

  • Follow bus behaviour rules at all times

  • Wait sensibly at the bus stop, no chasing games or hooning around.


Ministry of Education Advice

  • Parents are responsible for getting their children to pick-up locations and collecting them from drop-off locations.

  • Students should arrive at the bus stop locations at least 5 minutes before the time advised by the bus provider.

Parents should stay with their children while waiting for their school transport in the morning and meet them in the afternoon as they get off the bus.
