The WIS vs KIS Shield 🏆
Finally- after years of exodus, the WIS/KIS shield made its long-awaited return.
This was the first of several fixtures to be played throughout the year between two prestigious and long-term rival kura Whangarei Intermediate and Kamo Intermediate.
The entire school gathered to witness this momentous clash, transforming the atmosphere into a sea of anticipation, excitement, and unwavering support.
It was evident that both teams had come prepared to leave their hearts on the field. The first of both schools' preparations leading up to the A.I.M.S Games national tournament in September. The fast-paced nature of rugby 7s created an electrifying environment, as these young athletes showcased their talent and resilience. The teamwork and hard work that both schools have put in over the past weeks of training was evident.
The passionate display of strength and school camaraderie was evident with our Waimirirangi whanau putting together a powerful reminder of the deep-rooted connections between sport and culture, weaving together the threads of tradition and modernity in a pre-game haka.
Amidst the adrenaline-charged contest, it was WIS who ultimately emerged triumphant, securing a 20-10 4 tries to 2 victory over their rivals, KIS. The sidelines erupted with joy as WIS took home the first inter-school shield challenge for the newly carved shield.
A massive thank you to the Northland Rugby Union led by Bryce Williams for their support at school today, Leo Palmer for his excellent display in officiating this contest, and Kamo Intermediate for making the trip south across town to come to us.
Both schools look forward to the Hockey and Netball challenges coming up in the coming weeks 🙏🙏🙏💯
