Te Whanau O Waimirirangi.

Hirini Natana —

In Term One, we traveled to Otiria Marae, Moerewa. Whanaungatanga was the key objective of our haerenga, and we accomplished this in many ways. We enjoyed learning about each other and building deeper relationships as a whanau.

Together we traveled to Opononi, in the beautiful Hokianga. We visited ‘Manea, footsteps of Kupe’. There we learned the history of the Great Navigator, Kupe, his grandson Nukutawhiti and Te Wheke o Muturangi. We went to Te Pa Pakanga o Ruapekapeka and learned about the history of the war that happened there.

We had a lot of fun!!! We had a pancake competition, sang himene in a swimming pool, played pukana and played touch on the marae. Finally, we invited our whānau to join us on our last night. This is where we got to show them all the things we had learned, such as, tikanga, mahi ki runga marae, and Kapa Haka. This concluded our bonding experience.

For term two our Kaupapa Ako is Puanga-nui-ā-rua, the Māori New Year. Our tamariki will be learning through integrated learning about Maramataka Maori, Maori Whetu, Wai, and Kai.

On Wednesday 23rd June 2021, we would like to invite you to celebrate Puanga and your child’s achievements. We encourage you all to come along with your whanau and use this time, just as our tupuna would have. Enjoying each other’s company and sowing the seeds for what’s to come in the year ahead.
