This is Niwi the Kiwi!

Whangarei Intermediate was involved in a Kiwi Release Day last Saturday 13th Feb. As part of the build-up to the day, a competition was held to name a kiwi. Riley's winning entry was 'Niwi'. The meaning behind the name is that the kiwi is a native bird belonging to New Zealand. Riley also used the Māori word iwi, meaning a kinship group. She combined the letter N which refers to the first letter in New Zealand and the word iwi, to name the Kiwi "Niwi". Very Clever Riley!
