Nau mai, hōki mai ki Te Kura Takawaenga o Whangārei: Term 2, Wiki 10

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers,

As we bid farewell to an incredible Term 2, we want to thank you for the support and encouragement you give on a daily basis to get your child to school.   While attendance has been satisfactory, we strongly encourage all our tamariki to attend school every day. We firmly believe that regular school attendance is the cornerstone for building a pathway of success, ensuring that our students maximize their potential and seize every opportunity that comes their way.

Term 2 has been super busy with learning about Puanga whilst maintaining the core learning in literacy and numeracy across the curriculum albeit in the arts, the sciences, through the digital technologies curriculum, health, wellbeing and physical education.  Loads of our students have had access to the enrichment programme that operates 3 afternoons during our timetable.  All these opportunities only happen with the commitment and dedication of our fabulous nga kaimahi: teachers and support staff.   Nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa.  Again, thank you all for your commitment and enthusiasm. Let's continue working together to empower our tamariki and nurture their growth in the upcoming term.

A significant event happening at the end of this term is the handing out of Mid-Year Student Reports from the classroom teachers.  They will be handed out tomorrow: Friday 30 June.  The follow-up interviews will occur in early term 3.   You can book your interview time with your teacher www.schoolinterviews.co.nz using event code bkd7c.  I do also encourage parents and caregivers to book interviews with Mr Kelly - Extension/ Accelerated Maths and Mrs Hedley - Learning Support Coordinator - The Hub/Ka Eke Tārewa.

HAERE RA RTLB MERI TAYLOR

Many thanks Meri Taylor, our RTLB who has supported WIS over the past 4 years. Meri was instrumental in advocating for Structured Literacy and Mahi by Mahi programmes to support our learners. The RTLB service has also funded our Structured Literacy programme, all thanks to Whaea Meri. We will miss Meri’s wisdom, guidance and advice and wish her well with her move to Auckland. Her new school is lucky to have her.

HAERE RA KAREN HINGE

Karen teaches Google Workspace on Fridays. For the remainder of the week, she is the Digital Facilitator/Teacher at Waitangi Treaty grounds. Karen is finishing at the end of the term and moving to Kerikeri where she will continue her mahi at WTGs. We thank Karen for her contributions to our kura in 2023 and wish her every success in Kerikeri.

Finally, we hope you have a wonderful holiday break and we will see you all back Mane/Monday 17 Hurae/July.  School starts at 8:45am.  Kia pai tou hararei.  Read loads of books.  Rest and relax as much as you can.

Read on to find out what amazing learning our nga akonga/ students have been involved in.

Mā te wā, na Hayley Read. Tumuaki/Principal of the best school in Whangarei with the coolest students (especially those who are demonstrating our school’s vision: mā te whanaungatanga, ka whai mātauranga te akonga, ka tū rangatira).
