Te Whare Tapu o Te Ngakau Maori is a new curriculum that is being offered by Māori Achievement Collaboratives. There are 432 schools across Aotearoa that are part of this kaupapa.
For the last 4 years Whaea Hayley has been part of a rōpu of educators creating a marautanga for schools to help create and teach their own localised curriculum; a compulsory expectation from the Ministry of Education beginning 2023. The rōpu also included Te Ringakaha Tia-Ward (ex-WIS Tumuaki Awhina), Leanne Otene (Tumuaki ki Manaia View School), Damon Ritai (MAC Lead Facilitator) and esteemed leader Hoana Pearson (MAC National Coordinator).
We are hugely proud of Te Whare Tapu o Ngakau Māori pukapuka and where it stems from; the bastion place for Māori, at the marae. We look forward to the professional learning programme that will be in schools from 2023 and look forward to the new approach to learning about our local hitori/history.
Whaea Hayley would like to thank the Board of Trustees and nga kaimahi for supporting her on this kaupapa over the few years. Ki te whei ao, ki te ao marama.
