The Spelling Bee was run in the hall last Wednesday and Thursday. There were two divisions. The students had an option to pick either the Māori Word or the English Word of the same meaning. For example Aniwaniwa or Rainbow. The word is then read in a sentence and repeated.
The students were then arranged in Alphabetical order - for as Miss Watson the organiser says "There has to be some advantage in life for your surname being at the end of the alphabet." - and they proceeded to go down the line. If they got the word wrong then students stayed standing. If the word was correct, the student sat down. At the end of the row if you were standing then you left the competition and if you were sitting you got another go. At the end of the day we had our winners, Harleigh Bilich and River Chapman were the winners.
