Our new 3D printer! by Karen Hinge

Our library has a new 3D printer and Ms Hinge is an expert in using it.
3D design and printing is a service which is frequently offered in public libraries and now students at WIS are able to experience the latest technology in this area too! We are able to use our 3D printer to design and make practical things like the new dice tower and replacement pieces for games.
Some students have been learning and practicing their design skills using an online programme called tinkercad which is accessible on their chromebooks. Our Ultimaker 3D printer has been hard at work printing keyrings that students have designed and will progress to more complex designs as the skills of our students grow.
Machines like the Ultimaker 2+ don’t come cheap, but our Board of Trustees is committed to making our school library a wonderful reading, learning and creating space for our lucky students.
