Matariki Celebrations

Week 8 is our opportunity to celebrate the special occasion of Matariki that represents the start of the Māori New Year (Te Tau Hou Māori). This is represented by the cluster of stars that appear in our night sky.

Our students have been working hard using the global competencies of Creativity and Communication to produce artworks based on Matariki. You are welcome to come and view artwork from our students on Thursday 23 June in the school hall from 2.30 - 4.30 pm.

Twelve pieces of our students art will be on display at Westfield Riccarton Mall for the duration of the Matariki celebrations.  If you get the chance, pop along to the mall and check out the display!

Friday 24 June 2022 is the first ever National Public Holiday to celebrate Matariki. School is closed on this day. Please enjoy the three day weekend.

Attendance

Thanks to those families who have rung the office or used the HERO app to report a student absence. We appreciate those who have  kept their children at home with bugs, especially the nasty sinus and flu bug that is currently doing the rounds. In addition, thanks to those who are able to respond quickly to our calls when we ask you to collect your child/ren due to illness.

Please make sure your contact details are up to date with the school office. If you require RAT tests feel free to contact the office.

Year 5/6 Camp fundraiser & KPMG

A huge thank you to everyone that supported the Year 5/6 Camp sausage sizzle and lemonade stand last Thursday.  The team managed to raise over $550 to help towards the cost of travel to and from camp.

A huge thank you to our friends at KPMG who gave up their time to volunteer and cook all the sausages.  Kerri and the students did a fantastic job of co-ordinating the team and all the sausages were out by lunchtime.  Cate Mallon supervised the students with the lemonade making, along with Pritikha who helped deliver and distribute.  Ka pai to mahi team!

Central Cross Country representatives

We wish the following students - Dray Buchanan, Khen Janier, Ayyub Ali, all the best as they represent Wharenui at the Central Cross Country in Week 8.

Noho ora mai nā (Stay well / take care of yourself),
