Winter Sport

Today was the first day of our Winter Sports season. Wharenui School has entered 4 Junior - Year 5 and 6 - teams (hockey, netball and 2 football teams) and 4 Senior - Year 7 and 8 - teams (hockey, netball, football and a table tennis team).

This year was the first time we have entered a table tennis team. Our number 1 player, Sihong played one of the top players for his age in Canterbury and after being two sets down, pulled it back to a fifth set, ending with a tie break and he finally lost 19 - 17 in the last set. Codie who plays at number 2, did the same taking the game to 5 sets after being down 2 sets to nil. Our double players of Gian and Jacob had a friendly game with their opposition, learning the rules of the game.
