A message from Tracey - Week 3

Tracey Young —

Kia ora, Hello, Talofa, Mālō e lelei, Bula, Hola, Fakaalofa atu, As Salam Alaykom, こんにちは, Hallo, Hoy, હ લ ો, Hē leu, Mauri, न म त, Ola , Chum reap suor, Kumusta, Nihao, Xin chào.

Kia ora e te whānau,

A very warm welcome to the new students and families that have joined Wharenui this term.  It is great to have our parents and caregivers return on site and following the recommendations of Orange Alert level.  A huge thank you to everyone for your mahi!

Highlights of Term 2 (so far)

Our students were visited by the New Zealand Army Band at the end of week 1.  They held two outdoor concerts for us, sharing some popular Disney tunes and some well known classics that our staff demonstrated the dance moves for.

The Junior team went swimming in Week 2 and it was fantastic to watch the progress and confidence of the students develop over this time.  Our Senior team students are currently having their lessons.

The Junior team are venturing to Pūtaringamotu - Riccarton Bush this week to explore our local history and make connections with our cultural narrative.  A huge thank you to all those parents and caregivers that have volunteered to support us with these trips.  It is great to hear that they are learning new discoveries alongside our students!

The Year 7/8 students are rehearsing in the hall three days a week for the student version of Dancing Like the Stars.  These students are demonstrating many of our global competencies including character, collaboration and creativity whilst learning some new moves, fancy footwork and the meaning behind the current dance routine.  Ka pai to mahi!

Linc-Ed Hero

As you would have seen via the notices sent, we have now transferred to using Linc-Ed Hero as our student management system.  Thank you to all those that have signed into Hero and are able to access the school calendar, report absences to the office and view learning posts.

Last week each child had a Reading learning post released along with a supporting photo of evidence.  We will be rolling the learning posts out in a considered manner throughout this year as our teachers, students and parents get use to the new system.  The next learning post will be a general comment including progress to date on your child/ren deep learning and competency development in Week 10.  Ako Hui meetings will be held in Week 2 of Term 3.

If you haven't logged into Hero yet, please see the directions attached below or pop into the admin area so we can help you with this process.

Me te mihi nui mo a koutou manaakitanga - in appreciation of your continued support.

Noho ora mai nā (Stay well / take care of yourself),
