Fun Zone Red Zone Community Day

Sam Turner —

Our first piece of work on our Red Zone site has begun!

On Saturday 15th May the Fun Zone Red Zone group held their first Community Day down at our Red Zone site next to Avon Park. The children have been planning an orchard for their site and have each chosen a fruit tree to plant. They researched their tree and where would be best to plant it on the site and then negotiated with each other so that they all had a place that would benefit their tree.

The children also made signs for their tree so that members of the public would know what was planted and who planted it. On Saturday morning the children came to the site with their whānau to begin the first stage of their project. They presented their recruitment speech, planted their fruit tree and shared some kai to celebrate the beginning of the mahi at the site.
