Talofa lava, ni sa bula vinaka, kia ora, mālo e lēlei,
Karawhā have had a busy start to term 4 beginning with swimming lessons in week 1 and 2 at Te Pou Toetoe. We learnt about water safety, basic survival skills in the water and how to use life jackets. Our teachers were also impressed by the many tamariki who showed great progress in their swimming! Ka pai tamariki mā! Congratulations also to the four students of Karawhā who took part in the Principal’s Swimming Challenge, Athalia-May, Ihipera, Charlie and Lennox!
In between swimming we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties in Maths. We have also been learning about how many 3D shapes there are through real life objects such as ice cream cones, Coke cans and even Toblerone chocolate bars! In Writing, we have been completing our swimming journals as well as writing recount stories about our swimming lessons each day. Room 9 also had a go at writing their own poem titled “The Art of Swimming!” We are getting better at proofreading, editing and correcting our sentences to ensure that they make sense.
There are approximately 94 Karawhā students and 55 of these students took part in the Tamai Cultural Festival last Thursday! The students worked so hard and they did a great job and looked stunning on stage. Special thanks to Whaea Horiana, Whaea Nicola, Matua Josh, Mrs Bruce, Miss Diedrichs and Mrs Palamo for their mahi in getting the students there!
Term 4 is a busy term with lots more learning and many exciting events happening such as Sports Festival, Board Family Night, Athletics Day and Beach Education later on in the term. We are looking forward to all these great opportunities and to continue our learning to take us places!
Ma le fa’aaloalo lava,
Karawhā.
