Tēnā kotou katoa, Talofa lava, Mālō e lelei!

Recently, I was welcomed to the Whītau School Board and it is my pleasure to be one of your parent representatives. I am a parent of a Year 5 student at Whītau School and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to support the school and community.

A little bit about who I am! I’m a born and bred Cantabrian and spent the majority of my early adult life living in Australia. Almost six years ago I made the decision to return home with my child as I wanted him to receive a New Zealand education. He commenced his learning at Whītau School and has loved every minute of it. I work in the events and venue management industry for the council owned company Venues Ōtautahi.

We are now in week six of the second term and as the School Board, we met recently for the third meeting of the year. We welcomed another member to our Board at the meeting, Jonathan Brooks. Jonathan has a wealth of governance expertise and will no doubt be incredibly valuable.

The Board were pleased to receive the mid-year Literacy report from Miss Collins. It was very heartening to hear of the progress that the students have made during the Better Start Literacy programme. We were also provided with an overview of the Kākano and Kehakai Hāpori from Mrs Sprosen and Mrs Dalton. The children certainly receive a great variety of learning opportunities and one day is never the same! Thank you to Miss Collins, Mrs Sprosen and Mrs Dalton for these reports.

A friendly reminder that our meeting minutes are always available to you via the school website and I am happy if anybody would like to reach out to me to have a chat about anything Whītau School - sarahjane@whitau.school.nz

Enjoy the rest of the term.
