News from the Kākano Team

Amy Collins —

Each team takes a turn at sharing news from their team.

Only one week until the end of Term Two and also the end of June. The KidsCan jackets are definitely out of school bags now and worn regularly by the children during the breaks when the temperature is low outside.

In week seven of this term, we welcomed Miss Emily Lester as Kākano's Room 3 teacher and Room 2 opened up to cater for our growing roll of new entrants at Whītau School. Rooms 2 and 3 are enjoying the opportunity of teaching and learning together. This means that learning areas such as Reading, Writing and Maths groups are happening between the two classrooms. It is great to see children from Rooms 2 and 3 feeling settled and comfortable moving between the two classrooms throughout the day.

In Writing, our topic has been focused around different water creatures. This Tuesday, we were fortunate to have Ms Fraser bring to school her pet turtles for us to look at, ask questions about and also find out more about the life of a turtle. Rooms 2 and 3 were busy writers after this real-life experience.

Room 2 welcomed three new entrant visitors to their classroom this week. We look forward to these children starting in Room 2 and becoming Whītau School learners at the beginning of next term.

A reminder that we have our Student-Led Conferences taking place next week. Please make sure you have booked a time for these. If you do not have access online and still need to make a booking, please visit Mrs Black and Mrs Palmer in the School Office and they will be happy to do this with you. Miss Lester and I are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's learning and next steps.

Have a great weekend ahead.
