School Board News - From Board Member Andrea McGill

Updates from Board Meeting 2 - Thursday 30 March

Board News from Board Member Andrea McGill

Hi there friends and family members,

Here we are at the end of the first term, that sure went quick.  The School Board met last Thursday for the second board meeting for the year. A week before we put out the call for interested parents/friends of the school to join us on the board as we felt we needed more diversity and more hands make light work. We were not disappointed, three awesome parents came forward and we happily welcomed Amipeliasi Palu, Sarah Jane Cave and Irai Weepu onto the board. We look forward to getting to know their strengths and passion for Whītau life.

On the other side of the coin we said goodbye to Justin Mitchell. He has served on the board for the past 4 years and his experience will be greatly missed. We are thankful he continued well after his children left Whītau School. We wish him all the best in his next adventure.

The board were pleased to see the 2022 data on the main 3 curriculum areas (Reading, Writing and Maths) and the comparison between 2021 to 2022 and the number students at or above their expected levels.  All the data shows our children are moving forward which is wonderful to see. We would like to thank Mr Turner for putting together a great report.

With a full School Board we will now move forward with our strategic direction to make Whītau even better. We are happy to continue sponsoring swimming lessons next term which start the first day back next term.

It saddened us that there is still continued bouts of vandalism. To combat this our security cameras are being upgraded to protect more of our school and our students. Spread the word we love our school and have great neighbours that keep an eye out, even outside working hours.

As always our meeting minutes are available through the school website.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holidays
