News from the Kākano Team

Each team takes a turn at sharing news from their team.

 Kia ora Whānau

Children in Kākano are settling into school life. Friendships are being established as they get to learn more about each other. We have had visits from eCan to talk about how we can take care of our local environment, especially the waterways, Te Ahi Ora to show tamariki ways of engaging the mind through the movement of the body and Tamai Sports providing opportunities to participate in a range of fun activities and games. The children have very much enjoyed the opportunity of learning new skills and participating in activities alongside their peers.

In Maths, we have been focusing on Statistics. This has involved collecting a range of data and then displaying it onto a bar and pictograph, e.g. observing the colour of cars travelling down Woodham Road. We predicted that we would see more white cars than any other colour but were surprised to find out that the colour blue came out on top.

Reading and Writing groups take place in the morning learning programme. Our current goal for Writing is to think of an idea and then write some of it down and our topic is Water. The wet weather provided a great opportunity to write about the rain and where it comes from.

Kākano and Kehakai have Cultural Hour on Wednesday afternoons with either Mrs Bryce or Mrs Palamo. We are enjoying learning new Waiata and actions that we can then practice throughout the week in our classrooms.

We look forward to new five year old children coming for their visits on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This provides an opportunity for Room 3 children to model the classroom expectations and routines that they have learnt over the last 6 weeks.

Thank you for your support with Home Learning. It is great to see children completing this each week.

Have a great weekend ahead.

Ngā mihi nui
