Whītau School Sports Update

Week 6 - Sport Update

Our school Cross Country two weeks ago was a great success. This week, our representative team attended the South East Zone Cross Country event at Ferrymead Park. Our team consisted of:

Year 5 girls - Karley

Year 5 boys - Sammy, Ashton & Richard

Year 6 girls - Gloria & Chelsea

Year 6 boys - Tāne & Zayden

The team clearly demonstrated our school values while at this event and looked very smart in our school sport jackets. They worked hard, encouraged others to do their best and were all very proud of each other for completing the event. A special shout out to Tāne who came 16th in his category and Richard and Sammy who came 18th and 19th respectively.

The Cowles Stadium basketball tournament is played on Wednesday nights. We are in a very competitive grade this year! We unfortunately had a loss against Mt Pleasant last night. The team worked well together, passed to each other and had good defence. Congratulations to Tāne - our player of the day for this week. Thohith was our player of the day last week.

Winter Sports are in full force at Whītau School. We have already started our rugby, football and netball teams. Ki o rahi will be starting in the next few weeks. This tournament will be held at Hagley Park in the middle of next term.

Our teams would love some additional training. If you are someone who has some free time and an interest in one of these sports, please either send me a Seesaw message or email me: kelly@whitau.school.nz . The children know if they are in a sports team and need to remember their gear for trainings.

Thank you for your support to make sport happen for our children.,
