Term 2 has started well with the first five weeks seeing new children starting school and weekly visits continuing with children who are about to start school very soon. There are currently 20 students in Room 3.
Out-of-school events this term have involved Kākano and Kehakai walking to The Landing for our second visit. Room 3 and 4 children went together and had a great time taking on the role of a Scientist exploring the different water life that lives under, on and around the Avon River. While at The Landing, the children also spent some time drawing different aspects of the environment. They used a viewfinder to help them focus on the area they had chosen to draw.
Throughout this week, Kākano and Kehakai have been swimming. It was extra exciting for some of our new children as Monday was the first time they had travelled on a bus. Our swimming will finish this Friday. A huge thank you to all our whanau who have supported our events such as walking to The Landing and our daily Swimming. We really do appreciate your support.
Cross Country was a great success for the whole school. This was the first School Cross Country event for children in Kākano. They did extremely well and stayed focused to get over the finish line.
For the first three weeks of this term, our Maths learning was focused on Measurement. During this time the children discovered that there were many tools around the classroom to measure objects. They also found parts of their body such as hands, feet and arms were also useful tools for measuring.
The children are enjoying Music on a Friday morning. Nikki Berry, the Music teacher, provides 30-minute sessions across Kākano and Kehakai. During this time, children are exposed to a range of musical skills. Her lessons are engaging and all the children participate with enthusiasm.
Have a great weekend ahead.
