News from the Principal - Week 9

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Whītau School. Kia ora koutou katoa! Talofa lava! Mālō e lelei! Greetings everyone.

Kia ora te whānau

It would be very accurate to acknowledge that our school community has currently been in survival mode for the past two weeks as COVID has hit both families and staff alike.  Through great teamwork from our staff and support from our whānau we are positively moving through the worst of it.  With increasing student attendance our main challenge now for the remainder of the term is to have enough staff onsite, especially classroom teachers.  I am very proud of our united school community and how resilient we have been in the face of yet another educational challenge.  I assure you that our amazing staff will do the very best we can to keep our school open for our tamariki.

Congratulations to

  • Our Whītau School Community for supporting our Ukraine Mufti Days. Our 'Colour Your Day' today raised $209; and our 'Ukraine Yellow/Blue Day' raised $310. A total of $519 has been raised to send to the NZ Red Cross.  An amazing achievement.  Thank you!
  • Two amazing Road Patrollers - Ruby Wilton and Savanna Boese.  Thank you girls for supporting Mr Swan so often on Road Patrol in the past few weeks while some of the Road Patrol team have been away unwell from school.  You have been amazing!
  • Our 'Whītau Dragons' Miniball Team for their first win of the season last Thursday playing Queenspark School.  Our team won 12 - 6.  Great teamwork!

Friendly Reminders

  • RATS Tests - We have a supply of RATS tests at the School Office.  Please ring the School Office if you require some for your whānau.
  • Under NZ law, all children under 7 years of age must use a child restraint (a car seat) that is appropriate for their age size and development.  We have received several reports of concern about parent's not using car seats for their children.  Please be lawful and safe with your precious tamariki!
  • Our next Board meeting will be held on Thursday 7th April at 4.00pm in the Community Room
  • Please complete the Whānau Digital Engagement Survey to support Miss Collins study.
  • Our Gold Awards Learning Celebration will be held by Zoom on Monday 11 April at 9.15am
  • Our school term finishes on Thursday 14 April for the Easter Holidays
  • Term 2 begins on Monday 2nd May with Swimming at Te Poe Toetoe.  All classes will be swimming in Week 1.
  • Our Staff Only Professional Learning Day will be Friday 3rd June, when school will be closed for instruction.
