Last Friday our team went on a wee adventure!  To complement our learning about place names and especially the history of our school house names, we ventured out into the community to see our house namesakes in person.

We visited Wilding Park and talked about the significant achievements of Anthony Wilding both as a sportsperson and a war hero, then Woodham Park where the glorious Woodham House once stood.  At Ngarimu Street we talked about the war hero who received a Victoria Cross.  We then spent some time at the new Dallington Landing before venturing to Avon Park where we learnt about our school red zone area and we could see the former Porritt Park from here also.  We learnt that Arthur Porritt as well as being an Olympic Medalist was also a Governor-General.

Great news! Our free School Lunches are back in 2022 with a new menu! Our 2021 Student Council last year participated in taste testing on different foods and lots of their feedback has been implemented.  Compass gathered student survey responses on most of the dishes you will see on the Term 1 menu and this allowed them to adapt and change the menu prior to it being used.  Based on feedback they have changed the bread they use for a tastier more premium brand. They have removed the burger, pulled pork, cornichons and pasta salad options, amongst others. 

Compass are trialling a BYO (Build Your Own) Taco day which allows the students to have it their way.  They also learnt that keeping it simple is what the students are asking for.  With this in mind Compass have approached the menu differently, making sure they use strong base ingredients and leave off the sauces, sprinkles, garnishes and pickled vegetables.  

At an average cost of $3.00 to provide a lunch for your child from home, this is a huge saving for families of at least $15.00 per week, per child!
