Each team takes a turn at sharing news from their team.

News from the Kākano Team - Rosalie Sprosen

Term 4 started well with swimming at Te Pou Toetoe throughout the first week. Thank you to all whānau who came along to the pool each day to provide support. All Rooms 1, 2, & 3 children demonstrated a great attitude towards learning new skills throughout this time.

Arvir - "I am learning to do dolphin dives and float on my back."

Zachary - "I felt nervous about going into the pool on the first day because I didn't know how deep the water was."

Noah - "I feel excited when I am going to the pool to learn how to swim."

Losalia - "I am learning to float on my back using the noodle."

In Writing, children have been recording what it is they have learnt in their lessons and how they have felt about this.

The whole school assembly is held on Mondays from 9.00-9.45am in the school hall. Both Junior and Senior classes throughout Whītau School take turns presenting an item. This week Room 2 children presented their vibrant Artwork and then spoke about the things they like doing that make them feel happy, e.g. Charlie shared that he feels happy when he is riding his bike at the skatepark. We also enjoyed watching Room 11 perform the Haka.

Over the last two weeks, we have been running the Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme. We have Constable Jeff visiting our rooms this week so we are looking forward to this visit. There are a range of homework activities connected to this programme which run alongside the learning that is happening in the classrooms. Your child will need support with these activities. They provide a great opportunity for you to talk with your child on a range of topic related issues that are covered throughout the Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme.

Geometry is our Maths topic at present. We will be learning to name a range of 2D shapes and some 3D shapes. This will also involve identifying the attributes that make up these shapes. Room 1 has been busy using shapes to create these fun pictures.

St John visited our classrooms this week to talk to the children about Being Safe Smart. During the session, children were involved in activities that taught them about safe situations such as asking an adult first when unsure about whether something is safe to eat or drink and also unsafe situations such as leaving objects lying around the home or jumping on a trampoline with too many people at the same time. Each child will receive a certificate from St John for participating.

Miss Johns has joined the Kākano Team for four weeks. She is currently training to be a primary school teacher. Miss Johns will spend her time in Room 3. We are pleased to have her with us.

Have a great weekend.
