Te Kahu Park Clean Up
Last week Millie from the Christchurch City Council came to Wigram Primary and met with the Eco Club to help clean up Te Kahu Park. This is because we are the kaitiakitanga of Te Kahu Park, and we will clean up the park every so often. We gathered in the hall to go through a quick debrief of how the rubbish clean up would go, then we put on some gloves and took all our tools and equipment over to Te Kahu Park, most of which was provided by Millie. With the help of some other teachers throughout our school we were able to split up into 4 groups, each with 1 teacher to walk around the park and check for rubbish in bushes, the grass and a few other places. Most of the rubbish we found was actually in all the bushes around the park! After a while, we all gathered back to deposit our rubbish in bags for Millie to take to the dump and weigh. Later, she emailed Miss Ferguson and told her we, as a group, collected 8 kilos of rubbish! That’s ALOT of rubbish!
