Preparing for School Lockdown Due to Covid19

WPS —

2020 was an extraordinary year and we all experienced at working from home, and home learning. New Zealand is still vulnerable to the Covid19 virus, and we should all prepare accordingly.

While we are preparing at school, consider what you need to prepare at home if you suddenly have to keep your children at home for any length of time.  As we have seen this week, things can change rapidly.

Access to a device is the first step if you are able.  We will have a Wigram Primary Home Learning site up and running again.  Sharing learning on a class blog, and being able to link in with teachers through Google Meet is an advantage.

It is extremely unlikely the Ministry of Education will be providing devices for Primary aged students, and at Wigram Primary we will not be loaning out devices either.  Our devices are leased cannot be used off site.

A resource pack of activities would be sent home as well, if we are given some warning, and the 'at home' time is beyond 5 days.

What might you need at home? - Think about paper, scissors, exercise book, scrapbook, glue stick, colouring pencils, pens, pencils, magazines to cut up, activity books, books to read craft items - and the list goes on.  Think about where your child can work, and create a routine for the day so children don't treat it just like a holiday.  Education TV may again be an option.

We all hope this does not happen, but at lease be prepared.

We will be surveying families next week to create a list of 'essential workers' who will require supervision of children during Level 3 when schools are closed.

Level 2 - Schools open, restricted adult access.

Level 3 - Schools closed. Essential workers children supervised at school.  Home Learning site and activities for students. Teachers set up google meet up after 5 days.

Level 4 - Schools closed. No access for anyone. Teacher set up google meet up after 5 days.

Information regarding Level changes and schooling - School Facebook, Skoolloop, emailed to listed family email addresses.
