Zone Basketball Review

WPS —

Sixteen lucky kids were starting their journey to play in the West Zones Basketball Tournament when our teacher, Mr W, told us we had to get to school by 8:15am at the latest. Some kids' eyes bulged like doughnuts in their heads! But, there were some good things though, like it was full-court and you could shoot three pointers. The important necessities were mouthguards, water bottles, and NO jewellery. You could also bring a sensible morning tea snack.

Excitedly, we all hopped onto the bus and made our way to Pioneer Stadium. However, Mr W unfortunately forgot the basketballs which we were allowed to bring to practice in the stadium. Fortunately, another school lent us a ball which we were all grateful for, and then we warmed up for the first basketball game.

Wigram  2 (Year 6 team) first played against Ilam school.

Wigram 1 (Year 5 team) cheered on the Wigram 2 team but the Ilam team had a full on cheer team! But that didn’t stop us, we cheered our hardest!

In the end it was a tie, 4-4.

Our Year 5 team then took the court full of nervousness and excitement where we also played against another Ilam School team. We were pleased to come out on top with a hard fought win. Unfortunately both our teams didn’t quite make the semi finals but we were satisfied with a mixture of wins, draws and defeats. Both our teams played with great sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Lots of thanks to our Teacher Aide, Adele, who managed our Wigram 1 Team at the tournament, making sure we were organised and ready to take the court.

The Basketball Zones were pretty cool and it was a great opportunity to be there but after competing in 5 or 6 games we were quite tired. However, on the bus trip back everyone was cheerful with glee!!
