Whole School FUN RUN!
A word from our students...
On Wednesday, week 5 of term 2, the 24th of May, we had the whole school fun run. The whole school fun run is about running around the school, having fun, trying to get a little more fit than we already are and trying our best! The senior kids had to run 2 laps around the school (because they are older and more fit,) including jumping over some hay bales and tires along the way. It was also the same for the juniors but some of them only ran 1 lap. We ran in our house colours and classes. Some of us were even dressed in our house colours! After all the running, we were all very tired but we all had lots of fun! The track was running from Kotuku, out the gate and around the scooter track. Then we had to jump over the hay bales and some other stuff. While waiting for our turn to run, we also cheered on the people running! The whole school fun run was pretty fun but before we had it, we started training by running as many laps as we could each day around the school scooter track. So far Ruru has ran 590 km from Bluff to Christchurch, (if you round the numbers.) in the South Island. There are 2,040 km in total for the North and South island combined. Mainly Ruru and Kereru have both been tally counting the laps for each and adding them together (separately). It was great to see lots of people contribute great amounts of laps each day as they keep persevering and trying their hardest to keep up as each lap equals 300m. The way that our amazing teachers in Ruru and Kereru counted up all our laps was by standing at the end of the scooter track, then adding 1 tally mark for each student running by. At the end, the teacher and students add up the tally marks ran on that day, and add it to the whole total. The teachers also stood on the track to encourage the students who were a bit tired or didn’t feel like running. Sometimes they ran with us as well to encourage us even more.
