Kia ora e te whānau

Welcome to Term 2. I hope you had a nice Easter break.

Term 2 is looking like another full term.

Perhaps an appropriate whakatauki to start our term could be the following:

Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa which means we should work together for the wellbeing of everyone.

Working together is something that our staff and board really believe in and it aligns with and is supported by our school vision - learning together - soaring to new heights. Let’s keep working together whānau. The benefits are far greater when we do :)

We welcomed new staff and students today at our Mihi Whakatau. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us as well. Well done to Jordan, Mosses, Honor and Shanaya for being brave and giving their mihi. You did a great job.

There are a few things that I wish to highlight at the start of the term include:

  • Please take the time to read through the learning space newsletter that was shared with you at the end of last week.

  • We will be sharing school reports at the end of this term to provide you with an update on your child’s progress. Please check out the article in this newsletter that explains some key things to be aware of on how our reports will work.

  • Each learning space will provide their whānau with an opportunity to come into their learning space and to see something in “action”. This could be the work that the kids have done for Inquiry or Numicon. This will be happening towards the end of the term and more information will follow.

  • Winter sports will be happening - please check out the article on Cross country in this newsletter. There will be further updates on other sporting events later in the term.

  • We invite you to a parenting evening on the 17th May - we are confident that this will be beneficial for you and your whānau

  • At the end of the term, we will be having our annual cultural day. This is a great day where students can come dressed in their traditional clothing (optional) and bring some food that represents their culture. We will be sharing more information about this later in the term. We are very fortunate as a school community to have so many languages and cultures represented.

The above are just a few things that are happening this term.

Along with this, the staff will also be doing some additional Professional Development in Numicon, Writing and the Spelling platform that we have started to use this term. Wigram is very fortunate to have a very dedicated group of staff who demonstrate a growth mindset and desire to learn and grow as well for the benefit of their students.

Ngā mihi nui
