Eco Club Leaders message

Looking after our school environment.

Hello Chloe and Aimee here - we are 2 of the Eco Leaders at Wigram Primary School.

On Wednesdays we do a whole school rubbish clean up with Vincy and Anna, to help the environment and to make the school nice and tidy.

How it works: If you fill a bit of the bucket up you will get two Kahu cards. Children who fill up a whole bucket will get five Kahu cards. After collection the children separate the rubbish into recycling and the red bin items go in the school’s rubbish bins. The children also keep any glad bags or glad wrap and collect this for the terracycle recycling program.

Over the past four years we have been sending glad wrap to Terracycle. So far we have sent over 9.2 kg of glad wrap. That means we have saved 9.2kg of glad wrap from landfill and we are very proud of this. Kids at Wigram Primary School love keeping our environment tidy and helping sea animals like turtles by keeping rubbish out of the drains.

Here is a video of what happens to our glad wrap when it arrives at Terracycle.

If you would like to join in, we (Anna, Vincy, Aimee and Chloe) will be on the netball/basketball court on Wednesday lunch times.

Thank you to everyone who takes part.
