Exciting Times at Camp Last Week

"Despite what others may think, the walk from Govenor’s Bay to Living Springs was fun, even though it was hard.

The sun was beating down on everyone's backs. We had to be careful where we stepped because there was so much animal droppings. People were running towards shade whenever they saw it, in case they wouldn’t see any more until we got there! Most of the walk was uphill. We were squeezing the final drops of water out of our bottles. The only thing keeping us going was the thought of the cold pool and water taps and fresh juice! And lovely shade. Oh, how much we wanted to get there! But the elements were against us. The sun was beating down harder than ever before. The hill got steeper and steeper. Water was all gone. The wind was pushing us in the wrong direction. But we powered on. The thought of camp was too exciting. The smell of rotting wood and animal dropping swirled in the wind around us. Would we ever make it?

But then the best thing happened. A building was in front of us. We had made it! What an adventure.- By Jacob T

"Last week, Kereru went to camp at Living Springs and had lots of fun. We had lots of organised activities to do but also had some free time. The staff were really nice and caring. There were lots of things to do but the most favorite thing about camp was the FOOD! The food was good and flavorful. The juice at Living Springs was always served when we were thirsty and it was always cold. The fruit was fresh and delicious. It was a great experience with my friends (even though I missed my family)."- By Trilok

"Last week Kererū went to school camp and my favorite thing about camp was the Camp Concert. I really enjoyed doing the show with my bunk room and seeing other people do their show with their friends. The judges were Miss Hanrahan, Miss Ronald and Mr W. There were lots of different things that people did for the concert. Some people performed plays, told jokes and put on shows. It was very entertaining watching everyone doing their things. The people who won first place were Jacob and Andrew!"- By Zariah

"Last week I went on camp. Camp was like having a sleepover with all of your friends! One thing I enjoyed was the low ropes. It was so challenging but I was really proud of my group when we completed the challenges. I also had fun exploring what Living Springs looks like."- By Shuayb
