Numicon Whānau Evening

Tuesday 6th July in Ruru 6:30pm- 7:30pm

The need for strong teaching of Mathematics, with the aim of increasing student achievement, has been an ongoing issue in New Zealand. Wigram Primary has responded to the needs and interests of our students in Mathematics by introducing the Numicon Programme across all learning spaces.

Numicon is a structured approach to teaching mathematics. It is a multi-sensory programme that allows students to directly manipulate materials to build a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and number patterning.

By using equipment, children can create and visualise number concepts, allowing them to have a stronger understanding of abstract mathematical concepts. They are also encouraged to give mathematical reasons for their thinking. The conversations students have alongside their learning give them a deeper understanding of number ideas, concepts and relationships. These are fundamental for ongoing success in maths.

On Tuesday 6th July from 6:30-7:30 pm, we would love you to join us for an information evening at school where they will be able to see and experience aspects of the Numicon programme in action.

We are very grateful to the Board of Trustees for their support. We were able to purchase a significant amount of Numicon equipment and necessary teacher resource books. We are excited to be bringing this programme to life and look forward to seeing our students becoming more confident and successful mathematicians.
