Kia ora e te whānau

Our Huritini School Council reps have spent a lot of time working with other schools in the Halswell area around how to make our school roadways safer.  You will have seen the wonderful car sticker - Drive Safely for Our Safety.

However this safety message does not seem to get through to some of our school drivers.  Please, please, please be good role models for our students, and your children.  You all know what is ok and what is not.  You all know where to park and where to not.  You all know how to behave safely on the roads - we just ask that you do that around Wigram Primary.

Last week we had a neighbour complaint - do you know one of our parents parked in her driveway to come in to school to collect her child!!!!!!  That same neighbour also had people parking over her driveway to come and collect children!!!!  Would you appreciate this happening to you?  She shared the photos with us.

Another complaint from a local resident is in respect to the narrow streets and cars on both sides of the roads.  There is nothing illegal here, but he finds it very difficult negotiating the roads when car doors are being opened onto the roadway.  Please, as a parent, make sure your child can safely exit the car onto the footpath side of the road.  He feels it is an accident waiting to happen.

As we have mentioned many times our school carpark is for staff only - however if you get called to school to pick up a sick or injured child, the carpark is available for you to use.

On Tuesday we had a distressed parent who arrived to urgently pick up their child as they had a family incident to get to urgently - so the carpark was used.  At least two of our parents were outraged and treated this, already distressed, parent horrifically.  They yelled and screamed at him causing extreme distress to his daughter as she got to the car, yelling that the police had been called.  One parent was videoing the situation, and one parent blocked his exit from the carpark.

Really Wigram - You can not take things into your own hands.  Bullying is not ok.

Tolerance please.  On Wednesday he came into the school Office to apologise for his behaviour.  I wonder if those parents would bother to apologise too?

Did you witness anything?????

On Tuesday morning (8:35 - 8:45am) a grandparent was parked outside our school on Curtis Street and her car was side-swiped by the light blue car from behind as it moved out of the parking space.  The car did not stop to check on the damage they caused to the right back of the stationery car.  One grandparent was seated in the car when this happened.  If you saw anything can you please let us know so we can pass it on, or if you were driving the light blue car we would be happy to pass on your details to the damaged vehicle owner.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

A reminder that this curriculum is being run across the school.  Look out for homework and family discussion tasks.

Term 4 is 'Wear your hat' term - Please get the hat ready for a Term 4 start.

Disco Update

Disco tomorrow 8 Sept.  If your child has already paid to come to the disco they will have a wrist band put on their wrist before leaving school.  This is being done to allow for quick entry into the disco for all students who have already paid.  Payment can be made at the door.  On entry students will be issued with a free glow stick.  Other glow sticks will be available for sale.

Year 1-3 cannot attend the Year 4-6 event, and Year 4-6 cannot attend the Year 1-3 event.  Thanks to our Senior leaders who are helping with sales for both events.

Parents are asked to be prompt when picking up from the disco.  The only entry into and exit from the school is by the main entrance on Curtis Street - all other gates will be locked.

There is lots of excitement around the Disco.
