LATEST NEWS AND VIEWS : 9 December

We are all racing towards the end of the Term. What a year it has been.

School End of Year Farewells

This week we have been able to Farewell Mrs Victoria Dunn as a long term Teacher Aide.  Victoria is retiring and plans to spend time with her 'soon to be born' grandson, and exploring New Zealand with her husband in their caravan.

On Monday we will host a Farewell Assembly for Mrs Rachael Hefferman.  This will be a lot of fun and a celebration of 16 years at Sockburn/Wigram Schools.

We are also saying goodbye to Mr Rhys Williams and Miss Ellie Cruz.  We will say our 'goodbyes' at our Carol Singing session on Wednesday 15 December.

Miss Lucy Thomason will be taking maternity leave for some time next year and we have had a chance, as a staff, to wish her well with the pending birth of her baby.

Covid19 Traffic Light System

As yet we have not heard how the Traffic Light system will work in schools.  I will email all families later in January around this, and the expectations.

Leavers Dinner

While we are unable to offer the full experience to our Leaving Students this year, there will still be a Dinner and Prizegiving. - Save the date: Thursday 9 December 5:30pm (dinner), prizegiving 6:30pm, at Riccarton Park Raceway.

Now that Canterbury is in the Traffic Light system, we have been able to open the prizegiving event up to all vaccinated parents and relatives.  This has been a blessing and only achieved as we are having a venue away from the school site.  This is such a special celebration event.

2022 Class Lists

Today we have sent out the 2022 Class Lists to all families.  Please check the list and make sure we have not mistakenly left someone off the list.

End of Year

As you can see the end of year is very busy this year as we have learning spaces to move with the building not yet quite ready.  Thanks goes to Southbase for working hard to make sure we are able to take possession before the start of the new school year.

Our final day is Thursday 16 December and school will be closed at 12 noon.  If you are sending your child along, please be prompt with the pick up as all of the staff have a lunch function to attend and need to get away.

Ako Meetings for the beginning of 2022

Our year begins with Ako meetings on 3 & 4 February.  This is a great way for families to share their thoughts and aspirations for their child with the teacher.  Booking times will be available from 24 January, a code will be sent out for this booking.  Please bring your child along as well.  Each meeting will be 15 mins in length.

2021 Hardpacks

This year we had a set of hardpacks ready to go out to families should we suddenly go into lockdown.  As we dis not use to latest packs, we are sending them home with the children instead. You could keep them in a safe place for another lockdown time, or use them over the Christmas break.
