Centrals Football Tournament

On Thursday 14th of September the Centrals Football Tournament was held at South Hagley Park. We qualified for the tournament because we won our zone tournament.  Schools from all over Christchurch attended this tournament with 16 teams in the Year 5 and 6 A Grade Division. We were really proud of the sportsmanship and teamwork that the teams displayed and the result they achieved. The Wigram FC finished the tournament in 2nd place after well fought battle against St Albans. Well done Wigram FC!

Below is a recount from two of the players, Noah and John.

"Last week on Thursday we had a Canterbury Tournament for Wigram FC Football and we will tell you what happened. The rules were that the games were 12 minutes each half. The second rule was that if you touch the ball with your hand in the 3 metre box it is a goal for the other team. In the first game we played Clarkville School. At the end of the game Shannon did a great slide tackle and saved the ball from going in so we won the game. It was a close game and we won 2:3. For the next game we played Waitākiri. At the end Noah crossed the ball to Trilok and he shot the ball and we won 4:1.  After the second game we had to wait about one hour until the next game. We vs Somerfield for the quarter final. We used great teamwork and sportsmanship to win 6:3. Habib showed lots of skills and crossed it to Trilok and he sadly missed the goal,  but Isaac got the ball and scored. In the semi-final we were up against Lincoln and they had some really good players, but we won 4:2. It was a challenging but fun game. The next game was the final against St Albans! We were ready to win but it turned upside down-  3:5 was the final score. We were really disappointed not to get the win but we were really proud of getting second out of all the schools in Christchurch."
