PB4L Thought ...

Managing challenging behaviours can be hard. We all know this and wonder how can we help to change the behaviour and make it a positive one? PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) asks us to work together to rethink our responses to challenging behaviours. Instead of spending our time trying to change the behaviour, we should ask why the challenging behaviour is happening and work to change that instead.

Research shows us that there is two main reasons for why behaviour might be occurring - to gain something or to avoid something. That is why it is really important to stop and think about why a child is behaving the way they do i.e. what is sitting behind the behaviour? Doing this will help support our (adults) response to what is happening more appropriately.
