The Orokonui Challenge WALK - a 11km walk to feed the birds - still a happening thing...

Orokonui Ecosanctuary —

On Saturday 22 April at 9.00am(International Earth Day) challenge yourselves with a 11km walk to help Orokonui Ecosanctuary overcome their challenge of funding the supplementary food bill of $9000/year for the Kaka and Takahe.   Note:  The Orokonui Challenge RUN event has now been rescheduled for Sunday 30 April starting at 11.30am.

You may well think - all that land surely there would be enough food - but the Ecosanctuary has regenerating coastal forest.  It can provide some of the bird food needs but they still need supplements until the forest matures and can provide the diversity and variety of food required.

Walkers start at 9 am for a scenic 11 km walk through the Ecosanctuary and around Orokonui estuary with one steep climb.

There are limited numbers allowed so make sure you book soon to avoid missing out.  Go to the link below to find out more and to book:

Orokonui Ecosanctuary wishes to thank Cutlers Real Estate for their sponsorship of this inaugural Orokonui Challenge.

Registration time for walk: 8.30am

Cost for walk: $20/adult 18+ $10/child

The three southern Kaka lads pictured above will appreciate your efforts on Saturday 22 April.
